What is Mindfulness?

The therapeutic practice of Mindfulness refers to achieving a peaceful mental state by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. Simply put, mindfulness is not the absence of thought, but rather a non-reactive observance of the mind. There are many ways to add mindfulness to your daily life and PBH Yoga and Wellness offers classes and training to help you find the best practice that works for you.

Mindfulness through Movement

Yoga and other mindfulness based movement can be a great way to find focus and calm the busy brain.  Moving the body while drawing your attention to your sensations helps to ground yourself in the present moment and helps us to take in more of the world around us.

Mindfulness through Meditation

Meditation is the practice of turning your attention to a single point of reference. It can involve focusing on the breath, on bodily sensations, or on a word or phrase known as a mantra.

Often thought of as a spiritual or religious practice, meditation can be as simple as bringing your awareness to the present moment.  There are numerous clinical studies showing support for meditation and its positive impact on health.  Meditation classes at PBH Yoga and Wellness offer you a chance to learn more about meditation and how to cultivate a regular practice.
